Bishop Milton Wright, a dedicated clergyman, regretted giving his sons a small toy helicopter that lifted itself into the air. The toy inspired Wilbur and Orville. They were consumed by the possibilities of flight. With many people getting hurt in the late 1890s and some even losing their life, the bishop feared for his sons, now 29 and 26 years old. He delivered a sermon in his Dayton church: “If God had meant man to fly, he would have given him wings.” But the Wright brothers were determined to use the newly developed internal combustion engine to power their own flying machine. December 17th 1903. The Wright Brothers took flight at Kitty Hawk. It seems that God had given man wings after all!
