Ralph Waldo Emerson said "Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." I absolutely love this! I'm a guy who likes to go my own way. I don't always blaze a trail that others follow, but I have a few times. One of my favorite was a company who scoffed at something we decided to to at our company. They made fun of us for doing things the way we were doing them for just over a decade, then they changed part of their company to be an almost exact copy of us. They say imitation is the best form of flattery... well I'm flattered! You're still doing it wrong, but it's better than before!
